POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Program Director, the Student Success Coach is responsible for facilitating the program elements and wrap around support services for youth and their families in the On Track to Success program in Leamington.

The individual will work as part of the program team to assist in the development of strategies to enhance the quality of the program, improve student retention, increase academic performance, and ensure the participants transition to a post-secondary program successfully. The individual will also have site specific responsibilities which will include working with school board and community partners and supporting program volunteers under the direction of the Program Director of On Track to Success.

The Success Coach will also act as a liaison and advocate for the family and provide systems navigation support. This role will also be responsible for tracking outcomes and will work alongside the evaluation and continuous improvement team to provide the data necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

Duties –

  • Engage and mentor youth to ensure academic and personal success
  • Work with youth and their families to mitigate the effects of poverty by providing support and hosting regular meetings as required
  • Facilitate all program elements that aid in achieving program outcomes
  • Support virtual and in person programming, ensuring it is highly interactive and engaging for students
  • Discuss student concerns with program team, customizing approach to meet the unique needs of each individual
  • Implement program supports for parents to improve family engagement
  • Maintain accurate student and volunteer records, ensuring that all required documentation is complete
  • Assist with evaluating the effectiveness of programming, by recording appropriate data and program statistics
  • Support engagement opportunities for donors and funders in collaboration with United Way major giving team
  • Act as a liaison between United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County, community agencies and stakeholders as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Knowledge

  • Understanding of educational theories and culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Understanding of motivation theory and strategies to support behaviour change
  • Understanding of systemic barriers and challenges facing students
  • Proficient in student development theory – how to best prepare students for success in post-secondary studies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; including Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint

Skills

  • Possess strong leadership skills, be able to motivate and influence others
  • Knowledge of mentoring theory, principles, and practices
  • Informed on theories of learning and latest pedagogical techniques
  • Knowledge of virtual learning platforms and strategies for virtual program engagement
  • Excellent organizational, time management skills, and ability to work independently
  • Individual must be able to think creatively and strategically, have excellent judgment and be able to work in a changing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and group facilitation skills
  • Familiarity with the region of Windsor-Essex County, including community agencies and resources for families

Abilities

  • Fluency in another language is preferred

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • University degree in education, social sciences, social work, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years working with youth and/or in a related field
  • Fluency in another language would be considered an asset

CONTRACT

  • Contract (ends June 28th, 2024, with opportunity for renewal)
  • Full-time position, 35 hours per week
  • Base Office – Leamington (Majority of working hours spent out in the community, with office hours for program administration duties)
  • Police clearance, including a vulnerable sector check and declaration of offences, is required
  • Must maintain a valid G driver’s licence and access to own transportation; will be responsible for transporting program participants from time-to-time
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, when necessary
