With looming economic threats—like tariff changes and cost increases—many of us are asking: What does this mean for our families? For our neighbours? For our whole community?
The reality hits close to home—and it’s deeply unsettling. Even small economic shifts can shake the foundation of a household, a business, a non-profit. When every dollar counts, even a small increase in costs can lead to major consequences.
For non-profits—organizations already stretched thin—rising costs and increasing demand could mean impossible choices. Cutting services. Turning people away. Watching as needs grow faster than we can respond.
Economic hardship becomes social hardship. And when families are struggling, it’s community-based supports that catch them. But what happens when the safety net itself begins to fray?
- Higher operational costs—making it harder to provide basic needs to people.
- Program cuts—fewer supports at a time when more people need help
- Strained resources—every dollar redirected to rising costs means less impact on the ground
- Increased demand—and fewer hands to meet it
And this is already happening in a moment where demand is at an all-time high.
But there is hope—because there is you. This is not the time to step back. If you’re able to, it’s time to show up, speak out, and give boldly.
The Tariff Relief Fund was created to directly support members of our local community who are most vulnerable to the economic impacts of rising costs. We recognize that the need is already great—and when times get tougher, it becomes even harder for individuals and families to meet their most basic needs. This fund will provide critical support, helping children and families access food, essential supplies, and other resources necessary for daily living.
Let’s keep showing up. Let’s keep giving. Let’s protect what matters most. Together.
Give local. Act local. Care local. Thank you for being a force of compassion and courage.
