POSITION SUMMARY

The Neighbourhood Lead, Community Connector is an enthusiastic individual who is responsible for building relationships with residents, supporting engagement efforts, and ensuring that the P2P Neighbourhoods Program is inclusive and reflects community needs. This role plays a crucial part in mobilizing local leadership, strengthening social connections, and supporting resident-driven initiatives at the neighbourhood level.

Duties – You are someone who thrives in using their knowledge and skillset to do the following:

Resident Engagement & Outreach:

  • Act as a trusted liaison between residents, service providers, and local organizations.
  • Facilitate door-to-door engagement, focus groups, and community meetings to understand neighbourhood priorities and elevate resident input.
  • Empower residents to take leadership roles in identifying and addressing local challenges.

Community Mobilization & Leadership Development:

  • Support the Community Action Network (CAN) by assisting with recruitment and ongoing initiatives.
  • Help coordinate local events, advocacy efforts, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Guide residents in accessing local services and participating in programming.

Action Planning & Human Centred Design

  • Lead the implementation of actions plans that reflect resident priorities and lived experiences.
  • Facilitate resident-led discussions and workshops to identify community needs and solutions.
  • Ensure programming is accessible, inclusive, and community-driven using human-centered design.
  • Support residents in problem-solving and initiative development to strengthen their neighbourhoods.
  • Engage residents in planning and decision-making using simple tools and materials.
  • Adapt strategies based on resident feedback and program evaluation data.

Evaluation Support

  • Conduct surveys and focus groups as needed.
  • Work with Data and Evaluation staff to identify changes needed to program and work with Team Lead to bring forward to the Neighbourhood Advisory Committee.
  • Work with the Team Lead to ensure program activities align with resident needs and feedback.

Marketing & Communications:

  • Create marketing materials, social media posts, and website updates.
  • Share key program updates, events, and opportunities with residents.

Technical Skills

In addition to the above, you are proficient in the use of the following technology:

  • Basic Computer & Tablet Proficiency: Ability to use a laptop, tablet, and smartphone for work-related tasks, including communication, data collection, and reporting.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Word – Creating and editing reports, outreach documents, and engagement summaries. Excel – Tracking community engagement, basic data entry, and reporting. PowerPoint – Preparing presentations for community meetings and events. Outlook – Managing emails, scheduling meetings, and coordinating with stakeholders.
  • Survey & Data Collection Tools: SurveyMonkey – Conducting community surveys and gathering resident feedback.
  • Social Media & Community Engagement Platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (X) – Posting updates, promoting events, and engaging with residents. Canva – Designing simple flyers, social media graphics, and outreach materials.
  • Virtual Meeting & Collaboration Tools: Zoom / Microsoft Teams – Hosting virtual meetings, training, and engagement sessions.

EDUCATION

  • A post-secondary education in a relevant field is preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated experience in community-building and relationship development is most important
  • Lived experience in West Windsor, Downtown Windsor, or Leamington communities is highly valued

EXPERIENCE

  • Lived experience in the neighbourhood and a strong understanding of local community dynamics.
  • Experience engaging with residents, supporting community initiatives, or assisting with local programs.
  • Comfortable building relationships and having conversations with diverse neighbours, organizations, and service providers.
  • Experience in customer service, informal leadership, advocacy, or grassroots organizing.
  • Familiarity with using social media or online platforms to share community information.
  • A commitment to equity, inclusion, and ensuring all residents feel welcome and heard.
  • Bilingualism or experience working with multilingual communities is an asset.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & BENEFITS

Contract Details

  • 12 Month Contract, with opportunity for annual renewal
  • Full-Time, 35 hours per week

Working Environment & Benefits

  • Work Model: This role requires predominantly in person working hours with some virtual. There will be evening and weekend work as needed.
  • Travel Requirements: Candidates must have reliable access to transportation to attend work at designated locations. Mileage expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the UWWECK travel policy.
  • Background Check: A police clearance, including a vulnerable sector check, is mandatory for successful candidates. This process will be conducted in compliance with all relevant privacy laws to ensure the confidentiality and protection of personal information.
