Labour Advocacy Programs

United Way Centraide Canada and the Canadian Labour Congress have been partners since 1988 – working together to strengthen communities across the country.

Unions are long-standing and generous contributors to United Way, encouraging members to volunteer and give. The partnership goes much deeper than just financial support – labour representatives also advocate for those in need in their communities and serve on United Way boards and committees.

In Windsor-Essex County, a Labour Advocacy staff member provides dedicated support to build positive relationships between labour, the community and United Way to help facilitate social change.

Training plays a critical role in building these relationships and providing resources to the labour community. In addition to leading the Labour Community Advocate Training Program, United Way supports the Adjustment Action Centre Peer Helpers as well as UNIFOR Employee and Family Assistance Representatives.

Labour Appreciation 2022

Thank you to all our labour partners who are steadfast champions of United Way and support Windsor-Essex County all year long.

Through this training, Labour Community Advocates gain a variety of skills to help workers identify issues and connect them with appropriate resources in the community.
