Windsor, ON – United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County has helped 4 million people right here at home over the past 70 years. The benefit of looking back is hearing many stories of success and hope. During the anniversary celebration preparations, United Way has had the opportunity to catch up with people who have been supported through the years.
Darlene was a single working mom happily raising her son when her world was rocked by a layoff notice. She received help from a United Way-funded action centre which ultimately led to a new job. She felt she was on her way to bouncing back. Then the unthinkable happened when her new love and common law husband died suddenly. Darlene’s life was once again in chaos due to circumstances beyond her control. She received counseling for herself and her son through United Way supported programs and she and her son learned how to cope through this difficult time. Today Darlene is back on her feet financially and she and both are doing fine. Darlene’s story shows how support from United Way really does make a difference in someone’s life.
Our exciting 70th anniversary reunion event is only possible thanks to the generosity of many local sponsors. Not one donor dollar will be spent on this wonderful event.
