Some children, youth and families need more help than others to achieve their potential. We advocate to remove barriers in systems and address the causes of inequality in neighbourhoods that need it the most.

Land Acknowledgement

In the spirit of our journey to reconciliation, we would like to honour the truth of our shared history and acknowledge that our service region is located on the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibwe, the Odawa, and the Potawatomie. For those of us in Leamington, we acknowledge the traditional territory of the Caldwell First Nation.

We are grateful for the opportunity to live and work here and are thankful for the generations of people who have taken care of this land for thousands of years. We also recognize the contributions of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples who have and continue to live in these communities.

United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County is committed to acknowledging and appreciating the Indigenous peoples’ historic connection to this land and aspires to be an ally by raising awareness of our Indigenous partners and communities. It is important to atone for the colonial theft and genocide that took place and the oppression of Indigenous peoples that continues today. This acknowledgement is one small part of our journey – moving forward, we are dedicated to listening to, learning from, collaborating with, and elevating the voices of Indigenous communities and partners. We are committed to weaving this learning into our policies and practices on an ongoing basis.

Please take a moment to recognize the land on which we gather and to reflect upon the journey to reconciliation with the Indigenous peoples of this land.
