POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Ignite Academy, Community Coordinator, the Educational Intervention Specialist is responsible for the facilitation of educational programming for the Ignite Academy program. The Educational Intervention Specialist will provide feedback and support the development of the structured curriculum. Ignite Academy is an out of school time program that aims to improve educational outcomes for children from economically disadvantaged neighbourhoods. The program is in 6 schools in our region, and supports students in grades 2-7.
The Educational Intervention Specialist should be results-driven, using evidence-based best practices to that will improve educational outcomes for children participating in the program, particularly supporting growth in their core literacy and mathematics skills. This position should have strong facilitation, classroom management skills, and knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum. This role will also work alongside the Ignite Academy Community Coordinator to track appropriate program and participant data to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

DUTIES & CORE COMPETENCIES:
Duties –
You are someone who thrives in using their knowledge and skillset to do the following:
- Facilitate the educational intervention to Ignite Academy program locations, utilizing your knowledge of pedagogical techniques and ability to adapt teaching style to meet the unique learning needs of all participants.
- Support the planning of the educational curriculum for the Ignite Academy, applying your knowledge of developing creative, culturally responsive curriculum, and best practices for improving educational outcomes, particularly in literacy and mathematics.
- Work alongside program delivery partners to help share learnings that will improve program outcomes across all locations.
- Ensure all program policies and procedures are adhered to by students and volunteers.
- Maintain accurate student and staff records, ensuring that all required documentation is complete.
- Support student learning plans and address concerns with organizational site lead by customizing approach to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Establish and maintain a safe and effective learning environment for students, program partners, and volunteers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Skills
In addition to the above, you are proficient in the use of the following technology:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher).
- Video Conferencing platforms: Zoom, Google Meets, and Microsoft Teams.
- Educational applications and platforms.
EDUCATION
- University degree in Education or equivalent experience, ideally with qualifications to teach primary/junior, or junior/intermediate grade levels.
EXPEREINCE
- A minimum of (1) one year working with children and or youth or other social service sector programming experience.
- Fluency in Arabic, Spanish, French, and/or Somali is preferred.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and access to own transportation.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
- A Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
CONTRACT
- This is a part-time, contract position.
- Pay – $25/hr for 16.5 hours per week.
- You will be entitled to vacation pay at 4% of your gross earnings which will be paid to you at the end of your contract.
- Majority of working hours will take place Monday – Thursday from 2:30pm – 5:30pm.
- Must provide annual Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Drivers Abstract, and Record of Offences.
