POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director, On Track to Success (OTTS), the OTTS, Ujima Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and implementation of the Ujima Initiative, a supplemental programming initiative of the On Track to Success program designed for students who identify as Black.
The Ujima Initiative enriches the On Track to Success program by providing culturally relevant support and programming, including community mentoring, wellness activities, cultural exploration, social events, and service-learning opportunities. This position prioritizes culturally responsive, community-based approaches that amplify Black students’ strengths and experiences.
The OTTS, Ujima Coordinator, will work as part of the program team to develop strategies to enhance program quality, improve student retention, increase academic performance, and support participants in successfully transitioning to post-secondary programs.
The OTTS, Ujima Coordinator, should be results-driven and innovative, using evidence-based interventions to support the development of the students and families. The individual will also be responsible for promoting the Ujima Initiative and developing relationships with school administrators, teachers, donors and community partners.
Additionally, the Ujima Coordinator will support colleagues working on the Ujima Initiative by moving work forward and communicating any concerns to the team supervisor, the Director of On Track to Success. This role also includes case management and direct service responsibilities, providing wrap-around support to students and their families, such as systems navigation support, financial barrier removal, and encouraging participation in other program elements. The position also oversees data and evaluation to ensure outcomes are tracked and to inform continuous program improvement.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with Black youth and their families to mitigate the effects of poverty through wrap-around support and host regular meetings as needed
- Engage and mentor youth to support their academic and personal success
- Develop curriculum and facilitate the Ujima Initiative programming, including community mentoring, wellness activities, cultural exploration, social events, and service-learning opportunities
- Build relationships and partnerships with local secondary schools and Black-led or Black-serving community organizations to deliver programming that supports student retention and high school completion.
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for students, program partners, and volunteers
- Support youth in improving academic achievement and school attendance, and help develop the skills needed for post-secondary success and career readiness
- Discuss student concerns with Director of OTTS and work collaboratively with the program team to customize support to meet the unique needs of each individual
- Engage with parents and caregivers, hosting regular meetings and events
- Maintain accurate student and family records, ensuring that all required documentation is complete and up to date.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programming by collecting and analyzing data and program statistics as required
- Facilitate engagement opportunities for donors and funders in collaboration with United Way Development & Brand Experience Department
- Act as a liaison between United Way, community agencies, and stakeholders as required
- Maintain effective risk management practices, ensuring clear communication with the supervisor and CEO
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPEREINCE
Education: Postgraduate degree in education, social work, or a related field is preferred. We also welcome candidates with a postsecondary education or those with an equivalent combination of education, training, lived experience, and community involvement.
Experience: Minimum of three years working with youth and/or in a related field. Lived or shared experience with the Black community is strongly considered an asset.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & BENEFITS
Contract Details:
- Permanent, Full-time position; 35 hours per week
Working Environment:
- Hybrid Work Model: Majority of working hours will be spent out in the community, with some office hours for program administration duties. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional mornings, evenings, and weekends, is required.
