JOB DESCRIPTION

United Way Windsor-Essex Chatham-Kent, with its shared mission to ignite the desire in everyone to improve lives and build strong communities, is a unified organization established to achieve greater regional impact by better serving the communities of Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. We are committed to ensuring funds raised in each community remains in their community to support local needs and ensuring local residents’ voices remain strong.

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the position is to assist with United Way’s community investment process, from engaging the community to understand its needs and developing an investment strategy for Chatham-Kent, to tracking and reporting on measures of success relating to United Way-funded strategies. The Manager, Community Impact will support the Community Impact Council in its oversight role and to act as resource to support funded partners ability to achieve impact on social issues. Additionally, the Manager, Community Impact will support the Major Individual Giving program in cultivating and stewarding new and existing major gift donors and assist the Director, Major Gifts.

FUNCTIONS

  • 20% Develop and Implement United Way’s community investment process in Chatham-Kent
  • 25% Convene and engage the community to better understands its needs and how to best address them
  • 15% Monitor the impact of funded strategies, tracking and reporting on measures of success
  • 10% Provide support to funded partners including problem-solving, accountability and relationship building
  • 10% Support major giving program with cultivation and stewardship of new and existing donor and assist Director, Major Giving in Chatham-Kent
  • 10% Support the Community Impact Council in its oversight role including grant writing, researching, reporting, etc.
  • 10% Collaborate with CI team and provide cross-functional support to other departments, including resource development team, grant writing, product development, donor engagement, accountability reporting, etc.

DUTIES & CORE COMPETENCIES:

Duties –

  • Identification of trends in community service requirements by conducting an analysis to proactively identify community needs and to engage the community to better understand and develop customized strategies and initiatives for United Way’s community investments in order to achieve measurable impact.
  • Assist with the implementation of United Way’s community investment process
  • Assist with evaluation and monitoring the impact of United Way funded strategies and recommend changes in overall design and delivery to achieve impact
  • Support Marketing & Communication staff to enable reporting on the impact of United Way funded strategies to the donors, funders, and the community
  • Maintain a United Way database of existing service utilization, relevant demographics, population trends and social indicators
  • Act as a resource and support the Community Impact Council in its oversight role
  • Support the major giving program through assisting with cultivation of new donors, and stewarding them to ensure they understand the impact of their gift
  • Assist Director of Major Giving to support the major giving program in Chatham-Kent,
  • Assist with the fundraising efforts and the implementation of other activities in Chatham-Kent
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of human service delivery systems and relevant legislation
  • Strong understanding of community building principles and practices
  • Familiarity with the structure and operations of not-for-profit organizations
  • Insight into the root causes of social issues
  • Experience and commitment to ethical research and data practices
  • Expertise in program evaluation, including development, tracking, and reporting

Technical Skills

In addition to the above, the ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in the following technologies:

  • Outlook and Office 365
  • OneDrive
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams)
  • Adobe applications
  • Data tracking, CRM software (e.g., Salesforce), and program evaluation tools
  • SurveyMonkey
  • Doodle

EDUCATION

  • University degree in social sciences or an equivalent combination of education, training and expertise with an emphasis on community development, engagement

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years experience convening and engaging diverse stakeholders to understand community needs and collaboratively develop effective strategies to address social issues.
  • Proven ability in building trusting and positive relationships with community stakeholders
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on social programs or initiatives, including using data to track impact.
  • Experience in supporting fundraising efforts, cultivate new donors, and steward relationships with donors or similar stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of the structure, governance, and operational practices of not-for-profit organizations.
  • Experience with grant writing, managing funded programs, and ensuring accountability to funders or oversight councils.
  • Proven ability to lead or participate in cross-functional teams or councils, driving collaborative success.

  • Permanent, full-time position (35 hours per week)
