POSITION SUMMARY
This position will support United Way in its role as the backbone organization for ProsperUs, a collective impact partnership of over 40 system leading organizations working to advance a Cradle to Career (C2C) strategy for children, youth, and families in priority neighbourhoods. The primary purpose of this position is to support community development work ongoing and related community engagement activities. As an Engagement Assistant, you will be joining a team of professionals dedicated to realizing a prosperous community where all children can achieve their dreams and reach their potential.

Core Duties –
- Inspire and support active citizen participation in the Community Action Network.
- Engage with diverse groups representing various perspectives, backgrounds, and communication styles in a range of outreach settings (in-person, online, and in the community)
- Assist in creating communication materials such as flyers, slide decks, report content, social media posts, and more
- Conduct research on special topics to inform ongoing community work
- Demonstrate professionalism in collaboration with program staff and community members
- Support advocacy efforts on behalf of ProsperUs and United Way
- Administer surveys and, where appropriate, contribute to the development of new evaluation tools to track community engagement efforts
- Communicate effectively via email and track daily tasks and meetings using an online calendar
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Familiarity with online collaboration and communication tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
- Experience with social media platforms for outreach and awareness (e.g., Instagram, Facebook)
- Comfortable using email and online calendars to manage tasks and communication
- Ability to conduct basic online research and summarize findings
- Experience with SurveyMonkey or other survey tools (an asset)
- Basic graphic design or content creation skills using Canva (an asset)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Working toward a post-secondary diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Communications, or a related field
- Experience supporting community-based programming or outreach (e.g., through volunteer work, school projects, or past employment)
- Experience engaging with diverse community members or groups
- Experience working with volunteers (an asset)
- Must be able to provide a police vulnerable sector check
As a Canada Summer Jobs-funded role, eligible applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid social insurance number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
CONTRACT
- Contract Term: 8-week contract from June 9, 2025 – August 1, 2025
- Hours & Compensation: 35 hours per week at $19.85 per hour
- Driver’s License: A valid G-class driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle during working hours is required for this role due to travel between distribution locations. If you require an accommodation related to transportation, please contact us to discuss.
- Work Model & Availability: This role will be predominantly in-person, with some virtual work as needed. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends is required.
- Travel Requirements: Mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with the UWWECK Mileage Reimbursement Policy.
