Tri'ing to Make a Difference

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

Heather Douglas will challenge herself to complete an Ironman triathlon to raise funds for United Way Windsor-Essex County. An Ironman triathlon consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run, raced in that order and without a break. Heather will be participating in the Ironman Lake Placid Race, July 22, 2012.

WHY IS SHE DOING THIS?

All funds raised will go to youth mentoring programs through United Way. Youth Mentoring programs work with at-risk youth, ages 6-16, throughout our region to enhance their ability to develop social competencies, self-esteem, positive decision-making and problem solving skills. Heather has been a youth mentor for 5 years. Currently she is matched with 8 year old Paige, her little sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters. They both see first hand the impact their relationship has had on each other. Heather's fundraising goal is $14,000. All proceeds will support youth mentoring through United Way.
