One of United Way's goals is to connect people and resources. The following web sites are "knowledge resources" that can benefit individuals, organizations, and community groups to be on the cutting edge, to develop their skills, to improve what they do and how they do it.


    • Canadian Policy Research Networks

      The Canadian Policy Research Network's (CPRN) mission is to create knowledge and lead public dialogue and debate on social and economic issues important to the well-being of Canadians.

    • Charity Law
      CharityLaw.ca provides information on legal issues of interest to charities and not-for-profit organizations both in Canada and internationally in the form of articles, seminar materials and newsletters.
    • Charity Village
      Charity Village is Canada's supersite for the nonprofit sector --- 3,000 pages of news, jobs, information and resources for executives, staffers, donors, and volunteers.
    • Coalition of Ontario Voluntary Organizations
      The Coalition of Ontario Voluntary Organizations (COVO) benefits the voluntary sector by facilitating the development of best practices, information sharing, networking, identifying issues of common interest, and promotion of Ontario's voluntary sector.
    • Community Foundations of Canada

      Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) is the membership organization for Canada's vibrant and growing network of 155 community foundations.

    • Connecting Windsor-Essex
      The Connecting Windsor-EssexT community portal serves as Windsor-Essex County's official source for key information, services and contacts.
    • Co-operators Announces Nonprofit Insurance Program
      The Co-operators has announced that insurance policies with their company (e.g. home, auto) will now automatically cover claimants while volunteering, including driving, liability, etc. They are aiming to encourage all insurance providers in Canada to follow suit.

    • Developing Human Resources in the Voluntary Sector
      The HR Council is an independent non-profit organization that provides leadership on issues related to paid employment in the voluntary/non-profit sector. It brings sector employers and employees together to work collaboratively on research, strategies and action.
    • Homeless Coalition of Windsor-Essex County
      The purpose of the Homeless Coalition of Windsor-Essex County is to provide a mechanism for the community to collaborate on planning, implementation and evaluation of initiatives recommended in the Community Plan entitled "Taking Action on Homelessness Together". These initiatives are part of the Supporting Communities Partnership Initiative of the Federal government. The Community Coalition represents the geographic region of Windsor and Essex County and includes 40 - 50 representatives from different sectors of the community.
    • IM/IT Canada
      IM/IT Canada's mission is to help voluntary sector organizations translate technology's promise into a stronger organization which ultimately creates better client service and a stronger community.
    • Imagine Canada
      Imagine Canada builds on the proud history of two leading voices of Canada's charitable and nonprofit sector: the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy (CCP) and the Coalition of National Voluntary Organizations (NVO). Imagine Canada focuses on three key areas: helping charities and nonprofit organizations fulfill their missions; championing corporate citizenship and help businesses partner in the community; and helping Canadians and their governments understand how the work of charities, nonprofit organizations and community-minded businesses is important to our country and its future.
    • Imagine Canada - John Hodgson Library Nonprofit Library Network
      The United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County is also a partner in the Imagine Canada - John Hodgson Library Nonprofit Library Network, which grants free access to a core collection of resources.
       
      The Nonprofit Library Network brings together The Imagine Canada - John Hodgson Library and United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County with partners across Ontario to provide information, resources and training to support the successful delivery of their service, outreach and fundraising programs.

    • Knowledge Development Centre - Canada Volunteerism Initiative

      As part of the Canada Volunteerism Initiative (CVI), the Knowledge Development Centre works to: build the body of knowledge on volunteering and volunteerism in Canada; and transfer knowledge to voluntary organizations to improve their capacity to benefit Canadians.

    • Leadership Windsor Essex
      Leadership Windsor/Essex is the region's foremost developer of community leaders. Leadership Windsor/Essex builds community leadership capacity by providing knowledge and skill development for existing and emerging leaders. It increases the capacity of existing and emerging leaders; create networks of people from different sectors of the community who can work together to strengthen Windsor and Essex County; and links LWE alumni to new and existing initiatives that address important community needs.

      NonprofitsCan is the public information portal of Imagine Canada (formerly the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy). The site includes information from Imagine Canada's research program and the Imagine Canada - John Hodgson Library, and provides Canadian news and press releases from on-line media outlets, news services, and nonprofit organizations.
    • Not for Profit and Voluntary Sector Network
      The goal of the Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Network (NVSN) is to support cross-sectoral research by building and strengthening relationships between individual, nonprofit, voluntary and community sector academics, consultants and practitioners across Canada based on a Community of Inquiry (COI) model.

    • Ontario Trillium Foundation
      The Ontario Trillium Foundation is a catalyst that enables Ontarians to work together to enhance the quality of life in their communities. We believe that communities across Ontario are rich in talent, creativity and drive and our grants stimulate communities to build on these assets.
    • Philanthropy Journal
      The vision of the Philanthropy Journal is to help people understand, support and work in the nonprofit and philanthropic world, and help them recognize and solve social problems.

      United Way of America continues to serve and lead the 1,326 local United Ways across the U.S. that are catalysts for change in their communities.
    • United Way of Canada

    • Voluntary Gateway
      The Voluntary Gateway is a portal that makes it easier to locate information, resources and intelligence, and facilitate collaboration to strengthen communities and social enterprise. The portal is a high profile hub that enables connections - to people, programs, organizations and new ideas. It is a platform from which users may share assets, dialogue and research and a tool for improved communication.
    • Voluntary Sector Connector

       The Voluntary Sector Connector was developed as a collaborative community technology initiative to provide voluntary sector organizations in Windsor and Essex County with a variety of online resources, and is designed to be a single access point to volunteer opportunities, online information, communication tools and other resources for members of local voluntary sector organizations.

    • Voluntary Sector Evaluation Research Project
        The Voluntary Sector Evaluation Research Project (VSERP) is a five-year initiative to improve the capacity of voluntary organizations to assess their performance and communicate their effectiveness to their funders, stakeholders and the public. The project has been developed to respond to the need that many voluntary organizations have to demonstrate the effectiveness of their work, both as a means for improving their programs and services and as a response to the demands of funders and the public.
    • Voluntary Sector Forum
      The mandate of the Voluntary Sector Forum is to provide pan-Canadian leadership and coordination in the voluntary sector, on horizontal, sector-wide issues.
    • Voluntary Sector Initiative
      The Voluntary Sector Initiative (VSI) was a unique undertaking between the Government of Canada and the voluntary sector to enhance their relationship and strengthen the sector's capacity. This site contains documents and links to documents that were created during the Initiative.
    • Volunteer Canada
